Q:Why not Download video ?
This app does not download, save, cache, caching, offline videos. It is not allowed by the TOS of YouTube. Download will be ideal if the data is mp3 or PC platform. But in case of the Phone and mp4 videos, the size of video is too large compare to mp3. And you will soon suffer lack of SD card space by downloading only a few mp4 video files. For example, 60/min HD Video will take over 1GB of your SD card. This is not recommended way.

Q:Why not Play HD 1080 or HD 720 ?
Some phones PLAY but some phones DON'T.
Playing HD1080 is dependent on your phone's video codec. Normally low price phone makers may not ship with HD1080 codec because it needs more expensive license fee and GPU. If YouTube app shows as HQ for the original HD1080 videos, please ask to the phone vendor to upgrade their firmware or OS ( Edit. Youtube seemed to changed and no more provide 1080p for all Mobile Devices).
